About Norman Cross
A native of Canada, Norm Cross was a design engineer
by profession. He worked for Ford Motor Company, and spent 16 years with
General Dynamic's Convair Division, Department of Wind-tunnel Model
Design and Towing Basin Testing.
His prolific multihull design career was spent in San Diego, California
where he lived with his wife Dee and daughter Claudia.
In the 1950's he began designing multihull sailing craft, the first of
which were catamarans. He began full time multihull development in 1968.
Mr. Cross died August 14, 1990 at the age of 75. His experience
developed his engineering skills and love for sailing translated to his
prolific multihull design work.
Recently John Franta won the San Carlos MX regatta on his Cross 32R
Banbal in November 2004 against many other designers still living a
testament to his enduring legacy. |
