In a recent thread, there was mention of how to shape the rudder blades. On my Hitia 17, I used 12mm 7 ply marine plywood. Photo 1 shows how the layers of plys help you "see" how your work is progressing. Photo 2 shows how I tapered from the front of the rudder to the rear. The skeg is just the opposite, starting thin, then flaring to the full 12mm for attachment of the rudders. Photo three shows how it all looks, and keeping the gap between skeg and rudder small will stop any leakage. The principle is the same in larger rudders, that is to create a smooth foil-like surface, not "flat" shapes that will hinder performance. Everything is epoxied, and glassed. I used a sander/grinder with a 7" 36 grit disk to do the shaping
