Ran completed his Tiki 38 some while ago (you may have read the 'wobble' article), and last summer moved to a new mooring. He writes in an email:

The trip under the mackinaw bridge was a dream come tru,, wish weather had been a little better,, was there as a boy when bridge opened and when I looked down from the center to the water I dreamed of someday going under it in sail boat.. made it about 40 years later,, wind was 18-20 and wharrams sheet indicates that you can carry full sail to 27kn wind,, I am not brave enough for that, I was double reefed both mains and jib on deck,, when I turned to beam reach after beating under the bridge I was doing 12-14kn boat speed according to the gps (lake michigan doesn't have tides or major currents),, what a rush. she performs past my dreams,, and I love motoring around harbors making other boaters look on in jealousy as I do 180s, backing, manuvering more easily than a car. worth the effort and money.
